Job Description


Leads highly complex human systems integration projects from problem definition through product delivery. Possesses practical experience in the area of human systems integration. Applies knowledge of human behavior capabilities and limitations to optimize human performance within a system. Performs integrated and comprehensive analysis for the domains of human systems integration: human factors engineering (HFE), manpower analysis and determination, personnel and workforce management, training, system safety and environmental, safety, and occupational health (ESOH), habitability and personnel survivability.

Supports senior technical level personnel and program managers in the planning, oversight, and execution of complex and advanced projects related to system and technical product development. Typically supports multiple project activities and may support multiple programs within the organization.  Provides technical guidance and mentoring to lower level technical staff.

Recognized within organization as a senior level contributor in the field, and may have begun to acquire a similar reputation in the external scientific and client communities.

Applies advanced technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to support multiple project teams in the development of technical products. Performs complex work in design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of program level system development, engineering analysis and research. Carries out complex assignments requiring the development of new concepts or improvement of current techniques and procedures. Displays an advanced understanding and innovative use of concepts and principles in performing assignments.

Supervises and reviews activities of staff, scheduling and assigning work to meet program/project completion dates.  Works closely with senior customer personnel in providing solutions to complex problems and advice on technical issues.

Derives, integrates, and assesses human-centric requirements for operational processes as well as system design, improvement, and/or acquisition. Applies principles, methods, and knowledge of applicable human systems integration domain(s) to exceptionally difficult and narrowly defined technical and operational problems to arrive at the appropriate solution(s). Applies knowledge of current industry best practices and academic research in human systems integration as well as innovative processes and technologies. Develops relevant reports and report data as required.

Acts as a human systems integration technical point of contact on projects, programs, and other work activities. Develops processes and procedures that enhance human performance while satisfying operational requirements to meet the mission.

Assists with development of mission and operational documents including but not limited to training manuals, mission need statements (MNS), requirements, concepts of operations (CONOPS), standard operating procedures (SOPs), policy, strategy, job aides, and performance metrics. Engages in systems engineering to implement a unified approach to gain and/or improve integrated capabilities.

Identifies opportunities for new program initiatives. Develops relevant briefings and specific project proposals, and works through appropriate channels to schedule presentation of these briefings and proposals to prospective customers.

Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Establishes and monitors standards for internal quality programs. Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems or applicable company procedures and guidelines.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


An active Top Secret security clearance is required.

Degree must be in relevant field such as human factors engineering, behavioral science, industrial engineering, or systems engineering..

Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of relevant work experience, OR

Master's degree plus 6 years of relevant work experience, OR

Doctorate degree plus 4 years of relevant work experience.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Demonstrated command of human systems integration principles, methods, and techniques in more than one area of expertise.

Advanced knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.

Effective customer and organizational level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
